Morning- Nice and easy 3 miles to shake out the legs.

Got to the meet really early. Got to watch the 1A boys, and girls race. And then 2A's, and our girls. And then some amazing 4A, and 5A races from the girls. Some girls are almost as fast as me in high school! But I warmed up with the team 2 miles. And got on my spikes, and I had all sorts of thoughts through my head. I was nervous, and not nervous. Just a mixture of them today. Did stride outs, and I felt great! So that's a plus.

Race Report- The gun went off! I took out fast! I was probally in the top 35ish for the first 800 meters. But I really focused on just keeping quick feet for the 1st mile, and it flew by. Running by at 5:18. I was like nice mile! Time to thrown down another one! But Going up the big hill didn't really phase me at all. But I pushed up it. And something I did this year, that I didn't do last year was I didn't go all out down hill. So I went all out on the down hills. And that helped me gain a couple seconds, and people. It was really tight still here. People were still elbowing, and pushing me. But I managed not to do too much of that. And I came by the 2 mile mark. I didn't even realize running the 2nd mile. That's how fast it went by! But the hill on the back stretch is where I made my big move, passing most of our guys (Nick, Kyler, Paul.) But I wanted them to go with me, and push the pace more. I yelled at Kyler as I passed by him. "STATE TITLE!" And that got me going harder. But I don't know about him. I really didn't yell it. It was more like a mutter.... But I was like 1 more mile Matt! Go for it! So I started picking the pace back up, and with 1,000 meters to go. I wanted to pace this Stansbury kid. He was HUGE! But I wanted to pass him, and he would not let me. I would speed up, and then he would cut me off, and he did this about 10 times. I really mean 10 times! I was about to push the kid over, because of frustation! But with 800 meters to go. Dallin from DH passed me, and then that kid. And I should have gone with him. But I didn't... That was my #2 mistake. But my #1 mistake was. I stopped trying to pass that Stansbury kid. So Dallin takes off, and I kinda go with him. And going around the pond. I could pick out 4 DHellians. Like their Jerseys. And I had to find the energy to dig deep here in the race. I went faster than I thought I could. And started my kick.  Passing one last kid, before I crossed the road, and this Bear River kid takes off flying past me! I thought he was Park City. And I thought to myself, "NO WAY!". So he was infront of me as soon as we hit the track. And then I was just dead... But out of no where I got this huge aderaline rush. And I sprinted past the kid. And coming in the last 50 (the straight away). I saw the clock ticking, 16:54, :55, :56,... And I was like! I gotta go sub 17! So I pushed as hard as I could, and got 16:59.8. I was pretty proud of my time, and place on the team, and overall. I wanted All-State soo bad (top 21), but I missed it by 1 spot... Just shows every point, or guy matters in a race.  I thought this was a really great race for me! But our team ended up taking 3rd overall in 3A. Just 6 points off Park City.... So close, but so far.... Some guys on my team struggled today, others had their best races. But I thought I did one of my better races. And I was happy with what our team as done this season, and all we have accomplished. It doesn't just come to us. You gotta work for things. 2nd at Region, and 3rd at state on a half-off day for the team. I think that's pretty dang good! I would like to thank my team for all the cheering, and supporting they did. It really helps! :) Thanks Coach Trevor, Coach Holt, and Coach Robs for all you do. I am very grateful for you guys. Time to recap my season, and put some great times in the future meets!
